Manuscript not conforming to the
following specifications will be returned. 1. General Original research papers, review articles, forum articles, theoretical papers, and practical case studies in all aspects of applied environmental sciences, focusing on drinking water, wastewater, solid waste, hazardous and toxic waste, soil, water resources, air, plants for treatment and remediation (phytotechnology, ecotoxicology, environmental conservation, impact management, etc. Submission of a manuscript will be held to imply that the work reported in it is original, that the results have not been previously published (either in part or whole) and are not under consideration for publication elsewhere; and further, that if accepted, will not be published elsewhere. Authors are strongly encouraged to send their manuscripts in electronic form by online submission or e-mail as an attachment for quick evaluation. Figures and photographs can be included as jpg, bmp or tiff attachments.
2. Authorship All persons designated as authors should qualify for authorship. Each author should have participated sufficiently in the work to take public responsibility for the content. Authorship credit should be based only on substantial contributions to: (1) conception and design, or analysis and interpretation of data; (2) drafting the article or revising it critically for important intellectual content; and (3) the final approval of the version to be published. Conditions 1, 2, and 3 must all be met. Participation solely in the acquisition of funding or the collection of data does not justify authorship. General supervision of the research group is not sufficient for authorship.
3. Copyright permission By submitting a manuscript to the ASES you are deemed to have granted permission to publish the manuscript. Contributors are required to secure permission for the reproduction of any figure, table, or extensive (more than 50 words) extract from the text, from a source that is copyrighted – or owned – by a party other than the contributor. This applies both to direct reproduction or ‘derivative reproduction’ – when the contributor has created a new figure or table which derives substantially from a copyrighted source. The following form of words can be used in seeking permission:
Dear [COPYRIGHT HOLDER]
I/we are preparing for publication an article entitled [STATE TITLE] to be published by Department of Environmental Engineering ITS in the Journal of Applied Sciences in Environmental Sanitation. I/we should be grateful if you would grant us permission to include the following materials: [STATE FIGURE NUMBER AND ORIGINAL SOURCE] We are requesting non-exclusive rights in this edition and in all forms. It is understood, of course, that full acknowledgement will be given to the source. Your prompt consideration of this request would be greatly appreciated.

4. Preparation of manuscripts
Typescript
Readability Manuscripts should be written in clear, concise and grammatically correct English (British or American English throughout). The editors can not undertake wholesale revisions of poorly written papers. Every paper must be free of unnecessary jargon and clearly readable by any specialist of applied sciences in environmental sanitation. The abstract should be written in an explanatory style that will be comprehensible also to readers who are not experts in the subject matter.
Structure The order of the material should be as follows: Title, Author(s), Abstract, Keywords, Introduction (including review of literature, definitions, if any), Materials and Methods, Results and Discussion, Conclusions, Acknowledgements (if any), References, Appendix (if any). This structure of the main text is not obligatory, but the paper must be logically presented. Footnotes should be avoided. The manuscript should contain the whole text, figures, tables and explanations according to the following: ►Manuscript Structure
5. Mathematical expressions, figures and tables Mathematical expressions (example: asespaper\ases07v2n2y2007.pdf): In general minimize unusual typographical requirements, use solidus, built-up fractions. Avoid lengthy equations that will take several lines (possibly by defining terms of the equation in separate displays). For drawing equations please use the Equation Editor of Word. Make subscripts and superscripts clear. The letter l and the number 1, the letter O and the number 0, which are identical on most keyboards, should be identified clearly. The meaning of the symbols and the difference between upper and lower case letters should be defined. Display only those mathematical expressions that must be numbered for later reference or that need to be emphasized. Number displayed equations consecutively throughout the paper. The numbers should be placed in parentheses to the right of the equation e.g. (Eq. 1). Figures (example: asespaper\ases03v2n1y2007.pdf): All photographs, graphs and diagrams should be numbered consecutively (e.g. Fig. 1) in the order in which they are referred in the text. Caption must appear below the figure and should be sufficiently detailed to enable to understand apart from the text. Explanation of lettering and symbols should be given also in the caption and only exceptionally in the figures. Figures should be of good quality and preferably in black and white. Figures should be designed to fit to the text area and must be embedded. In addition authors are requested to submit each figure also as an image file in one of the following formats: jpg, bmp, tiff. Tables (example: asespaper\ases01v1y2006.pdf): Caption must appear above the table. Tables should be self-explanatory. They should be mentioned in the text, numbered consecutively (e.g. Table 1) and accompanied by title at the top. Grid lines should not appear, except at the top and the bottom of the table. Please insert all the tables in the text, do not enclose huge tables which can not be fit within the page margins.
6. Abbreviations, units etc. Authors should follow internationally agreed rules especially those adopted by the IUPAC-IUB Commission on Biochemical Nomenclature (CBN). The journal will essentially follow the rules defined in the IUPAC Manual of symbols and terminology for physico-chemical quantities and units (Butterworths, London), 1970.
7. Checklist for authors prior submission Is the manuscript structure true to the Journal’s style? Have copyright issues resolved? Prepare cover letter in the following form:
Dated:………………………. To The Editor-in-Chief Journal of Applied Sciences in Environmental Sanitation E-mail: editor@trisanita.org or journalases@gmail.com
Dear Sir, Please find enclosed my/our paper entitled …………………………. Please consider it for publication in Journal of Applied Sciences in Environmental Sanitation. I/we certify that this paper has neither not been published nor has been submitted for publication elsewhere, and will not be submitted for publication elsewhere without written permission from you.
Yours faithfully,
…………………………….. Corresponding author E-mail: ….............
8. Submission of manuscripts To ensure rapid publication, manuscripts should be submitted in electronic format (MS Word or Rich Text Format) as an attached document, through: on-line submission system, or e-mailed to: editor@trisanita.org or journalases@gmail.com. For those without ready access to e-mail, manuscripts should be sent printed and on IBM compatible floppy disc or CD to the Editor-in-Chief: Prof Sarwoko Mangkoedihardjo Department of Environmental Engineering, Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS), Jalan AR Hakim Surabaya 60111, Indonesia. In the case of multiple authors, the corresponding author should be indicated. He/She will be notified of acceptance, rejection or need for revision. Manuscripts will not be returned to an author unless specifically requested, or unless reviewers have provided annotations that will be useful to the author.
9. Proofs Proofs will be sent via e-mail as an Acrobat PDF (Portable Document Format) file. Acrobat Reader will be required in order to read the PDF: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html. This will enable the file to be opened, read on screen and printed out in order for any corrections to be added.
10. Charges Publication charge USD 80 up to 6 printed pages after that the Journal will charge extra for USD 10 every single printed page.
11. Public agreement for publishing The authors declare that the submitted manuscript is their own work, which has not been published anywhere else before and that they are not willing to publish it anywhere later. The authors take responsibility for the content of the publication. It is the responsibility of the author to obtain written permission for reproducing illustrations or tables from other published material. The authors automatically transfers copyright to the ASES. The authors can ask for amendment or errata related to the publication, which will be published in the subsequent edition of the journal in maximum one page. Other additions or remarks to the article after publication will be judged by the Indonesian Editorial Board. The authors and the journal agree that the journal publish the reviewed and accepted manuscript after technical construction in printed and in electronic form. The authors and the journal agree not to lay any claim to financial demand. This agreement for publication will become lawful on the authors’ side from submitting the manuscript, on the journal’s side from the announcement of the publication’s acceptance. In the case this procedure occurs through electronic channels, this agreement is valid without an additional signed copy.
12. Offprints Corresponding author will receive n reprints of his/her article (n is number of authors) + 1 copy of the journal that will be sent by post after publication. The corresponding author takes responsibility to distribute the reprints to his/her team.
